Sierra Noble - violin
Sierra Noble, a world class fiddler, weaves stories of history and culture into her shows, carrying people away on a journey of understanding and appreciation for the unique fiddle music on which she has grown up.
Specializing in Traditional Metis fiddle music, she is not only renowned for her youthful, high-energy performances, but also highly respected for her wide stylistic versatility.
Sierra started playing classical violin when she was 7 years old and still studies in the classical field. At age eight, she began to learn the unique music of the Metis people. The first fiddler she met was the well-known Manitoba fiddle player Tommy Knott. Tommy started teaching Sierra the old style Metis tunes that many don't play anymore; he knew he could trust the existence of the people's music in this little girl's hands.
For many years now Sierra has been dedicating much time and energy to preserving the Metis culture by learning the traditional styles of fiddling and jigging and passing it on to youth all across Canada through schools and community workshops.
Sierra has learned from many of the greatest fiddlers in Canada and with her hard work and dedication has earned the title of Manitoba Junior Fiddling Champion (2004 and 2006), Youth Women's World Jigging Champion (2006), and Jigging Champion (2004). Sierra plays many different styles of music, such as Classical, Celtic, Bluegrass, Country, Old Time, Middle Eastern, Rock, and Jazz (studying with Ron Paley and Steve Kirby), and has been performing full concerts for the past four years, traveling across Canada, into the USA, as well as to Belgium, France, Mexico and Japan.
