One of the first classical instrumentalists to generate a significant following through the internet, violinist Simon Hewitt Jones is renowned for the variety of his work and his commitment to technological and musical innovation. Based in London, England, he performs both as a soloist and also in collaboration with a wide variety of musicians, music ensembles and artists of other disciplines.
Simon started playing the violin at the age of 5, and soon became a member of the National Youth Orchestra and Junior Royal College of Music. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Eric Gruenberg, and travelled widely throughout Europe and the USA learning from master violinists such as Gerhard Schultz, Norbert Brainin, Hu Kun, Howard Davis, Lewis Kaplan, Stephen Clapp, Pierre Amoyal, Gyorgy Pauk, and Rudolf Koelman.
Since graduating from London’s Royal Academy of Music in 2005, Simon has established a diverse career as a violin soloist, chamber musician, concertmaster, writer and internet broadcaster. He performs regularly throughout the UK, Europe and USA, and has appeared at venues including London’s South Bank Centre, the Wales Millennium Centre, the Cheltenham International Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Simon is now a soloist for the Live Music Now scheme, founded by the late Yehudi Menuhin.
