Milwaukee's áthas came together as the synthesis of the three members' love of traditional Irish music. The name áthas (Irish for joy and gladness) suits them perfectly--it's pretty near impossible to catch them not laughing, joking, or spreading joy through their music. They play various traditional and non-trad instruments such as fiddle, flute, bodhrán, viola, cello, whistles, saxophone, djembe, and guitar. The group draws inspiration from a variety of sources, including Comas, Danú, Solas, Flook, Lúnasa, Liz Carroll, Jackie Moran, Emer Mayock, and Mike Rafferty.
