Eric’s work includes jazz, salsa, rock, improv, but specializes in the music of east Asia – notably the Sundanese styles of Indonesia.
The music of Sunda (West Java, Indonesia) often features haunting modal improvisations (sometimes on a fiddle called a biola, in moods ranging from wistful, bluesy lament to raucous exuberance. This piece combines thje quiet strum of the kacapi style with a rowdy Sundanese dance music style called jaipongan - along with other Sundanese elements
